The Wiki Bible Project was founded and created in October 2007 by Doc Burkhart .  The Project was developed as an outgrowth of his personal ministry and his ongoing effort to create Christian ministry networks on the Internet (see The 100 Goals).

At the time, a number of wiki applications were being developed to enhance the knowledge of Scripture using the Internet and Web 2.0 applications.  However, many of those applications lacked a distinctive Christian evangelical world-view.  The Wiki Bible Project differentiated itself by subscribing to a core set of fundamental beliefs and principles, found in The Basics of The Wiki Bible Project.
