Harry S Truman on Bill of Rights

Attorney General's Conference, 1950

The fundamental basis of this nation's law was given to Moses on the Mount.

The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul.  I don't think we emphasize that enought these days.

If we don't have a proper fundamental moral background, we will finallyend up with totalitarian government which does not believe in the rights of anybody except the State.

Only under Christianity will we find a truly free governmental state. It is our responsibility as Americans to keep it free by maintaining a Christian morality within our citizenry.
